Obituary

Manville, NJ-Andrew James Hando, 60, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at home.  Born in Somerville, NJ, son of the late Victor S. and Joan M. (nee Ogurkis) Hando, he was a lifelong resident of Manville.
Andy was a graduate of Manville High School with the Class of 1980. Following in the footsteps of his father and brothers, Andy had a great desire to enter into military service for his country.  Although a discovered heart condition prevented him from serv ing , he still had a great passion and respect for veterans a nd active military members. He was especially proud of his nieces and nephews who went on to serve, and who are still serving, in several branches of the military. Andrew retired from the Somerset County Roads Department in Bridgewater, NJ , where he worked as a laborer for many years .  Most notably, Andy was part of the tireless crews that kept Manville's roads plowed and safe during and after winter storms . He also h ad a huge passion for the Manville Fire Department .  Andy belonged to Fire Co. #3 for many years and is an ex-chief for that station . B orn and raised as a Byzantine Catholic at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Manville, Andy later attended and was actively involved at Ss. Peter & Paul Russian Orthodox Church , also in Manville. M ost recently , Andy had been a parishioner at Christ the Redeemer Parish in Manville. A sports fan like so many, Andy was most passionate about the Mets, the Redskins, and Rutgers football .
Andrew is predeceased by his parents and by his oldest brother, Victor S. Hando, Jr. He is survived by eight loving siblings : Peter Hando, John Hando, Ann Viesti, Stella DaSilva, Michael Hando, Henry Hando, Nicholas Hando, and Amy Bland; and twenty- five dear nieces and nephews , many with children of their own .
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Friday, April 14 from 6-8 p.m. with Prayers and tribute by the Manville Fire Department at 7:00 p.m.  Additional memorial visitation time will be on Saturday, April 15 from 8-8:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 9:00 a.m. memorial mass at Christ the Redeemer Parish in Manville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Andrew's name to Rheumatology Research Foundation
