Arlyne Sophia O'Rourke (4/23/1924 - 1/18/2024) Our mom was a gift from heaven who lived her life to the fullest and made it to her 100th year. She was born in Plymouth, Pennsylvania on April 23, 1924, one of seven children, four girls and three boys. She never saw her oldest brother, Danny, once he left home, but always hoped she would see him again. She provided a home in Newark, New Jersey for her siblings and mom by leaving high school to work. Mom started her own family and had three children, which she considered the best part of her marriage. She worked shifts at Bell Telephone in Newark and was able to buy her second house on Yates Ave. The house provided a home to her children and her mom, who was wheelchair bound, and many of her siblings. She bought her third house on 14th Street and continued to work shifts, traveling twice a day to Broad Street, even after the riots. She bought her fourth home in North Plainfield, New Jersey. She learned to drive at 40, and got her high school diploma in her 50's, which was a significant milestone. She bought her fifth home in Manville and lived happily with her son, David, for twenty-five years. She was a member of Tri-County Seniors and participated in line dancing and traveling. Mom traveled all over the world and across the United States. She was adventuresome and frugal and because of that she did everything possible. Memorable standout is her trip with Cindy, David, Danny and Gary across country and when she traveled with David to Thailand for 17 days! She bought her sixth home in Bridgewater, New Jersey at Laurel Circle. She spent 6 wonderful years making new friends and loved her apartment porch. Watching the fireworks and listening to the music from the baseball field was her greatest pleasure. She loved her Alexa and considered her a treasured friend that provided hours of music and information. She loved her chair volleyball with Miles, coffee from BiBi, and doing physical therapy with Matt. She brought so much love and inspired everyone with her ability to fight through many hospital events to get back to enjoying life on her terms. She always stood up straight and took pride in riding her stationery bike attending music sessions, and talking with people. She loved her "City Gin" (water). Mom lived her life with a purpose and passion and a belief that God always looked out for her. She loved her children Cindy, Danny and David, her grandchildren, Samantha, David, Jonathan, Brittany and Christopher and her great grandchildren Gabriella, Priscilla and Penelope unconditionally. She will miss her sister Mary Parascando, the youngest, as well as the frequent check-ins from her niece Marilou and nephews Peter & Paul. Relatives and friends are invited to come together for a viewing at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Monday, January 22, from 4-8 with a prayer service at 5:00 pm given by Father Anthony.
