Manville, NJ- Betty Ann (nee Kaschak) Cowen, 88, entered into eternal life on Friday, January 22, 2021 at home in the presence of loving family. Born in Manville, NJ, daughter of the late George and Susan (nee Moschak) Kaschak, she was a lifelong resident of Manville.
Betty was a graduate of Bound Brook High School. Being born into a family of retail, Betty eventually co-owned the Centre Shoppe in Manville for many years with her sister and best friend, Marian. After retiring from the Centre Shoppe, she worked in various shops and stores across Somerset County. Betty was also a devout Catholic and parishioner of Christ the Redeemer Parish (formerly known as Sacred Heart Church) in Manville. She was active in many facets of parish life, being a president and member of the Altar Rosary Society, president of the Sacred Heart School PTA and Trenton Diocesan PTA, chairwoman of the 75 th Diamond Jubilee Ball, and a longtime volunteer at the Sacred Heart Church Summer Festival. Betty also served her town of Manville well, she was a founding member and president of the Manville Rescue Squad Auxiliary, served on the board of the Manville Business Professional Association, and established the Manville Street Fair. Some of her favorite pastimes included ceramics, knitting, watching the New York Yankees, and spending time with family.
Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gerald N. Cowen, who died on December 2, 2002; her oldest brother, Thomas J. Kaschak; sister, Marian "Sis" Mesco; and brother, Richard "Dick" Kaschak.
Betty is survived by three loving children, George Cowen, Maureen and her husband Jon Severson, and Gerald Cowen; two cherished grandsons, Erik Severson and his wife Kate, and Aaron Severson; an adored great grandson, Jacob Severson; and the many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Daphney and Millan, and her RN, Eva, who cared for Betty as if she were one of their own.
A Memorial Funeral Liturgy will be held on Wednesday, January 27 at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church Christ (Christ the Redeemer Parish) in Manville. The final disposition will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's name to Christ the Redeemer Parish, 98 South 2 nd Avenue, Manville, NJ 08835. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835. The funeral services will be private at Bettys request.
Betty was a very devoted and kind woman who will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.
