Catherine Makowski passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at her son's home. She was 93. Born in Wilmington, DE on November 18, 1919, moved with her parents Dmytro and Julia Gabrel and sisters Anna and Eleanor to Przemysl, Poland. She met her husband to be, Stanley Makowski in a German work farm where after WWII they were married and immigrated to Sudbury Ontario Canada in late 1940's, moved to New Jersey in late 1950's. She resided with her husband and family in Manville, NJ for over 50 years.
Catherine was employed by Wood Finishers, Inc. and later worked in Somerset Hospital in food services. Catherine was a housewife for many years. She took pleasure in cooking and baking especially cakes and pastries for her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, planting flowers and gardening. She and her husband Stanley were faithful parishioners at Sacred Heart Church in Manville and an active member of the Church Polish Alliance Club.
She was predeceased by her husband to whom she was married a little over 55 years, Stanley Makowski born in Zakopane Poland; her sisters, Eleanor Gabrel deceased in the Ukraine and Anna Legue deceased from Senlisse, France. She is survived by her two children, Eugene and his wife Laura of Asbury, NJ, Chester and his wife Nialetta of Manville, NJ and five grandchildren, Susan, Stephen, Jared, Jennifer and James and many nieces and nephews abroad, especially Monique Gougerot and family and Michel Legue and family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Monday, January 14 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday, January 15 from 8-8:30 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 15 beginning 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 9:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Manville. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery on Millstone River Road in Hillsborough.
