David L. Matthews
Green Brook, NJ- David L. "Dave" Matthews, 60, entered into eternal life on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Abingdon Care and Rehabilitation Center in Green Brook with his loving caregiver by his side. Born in Somerville, NJ, son of the late James and Gwendolyn (nee Kaohu) Matthews, he lived in Manville, NJ, Piscataway, NJ, and Bound Brook, NJ before settling in Green Brook in 2011.
Dave was a dedicated employee at Walmart in Branchburg and ShopRite in Bound Brook as a parking lot attendant. He had a passion for sports. An avid Miami Dolphins, New York Yankees and Somerset Patriots fan, Dave enjoyed attending their games when he could along with other sporting events. Some of Dave's favorite pastimes were fishing, camping, and bowling. Rummaging the vendor tables at local flea markets brought great joy to Dave. Dave was the proud recipient of the New Jersey 2011 Star Award. His greatest joy came from spending time with his "fiancée" Beverly and his feline friend Smokey.
Besides his parents, Dave was also predeceased by one of his best friends, Michael Gill.
Dave is survived by his son, devoted caregiver and friend, Renie Weakland of Middlesex, NJ; loving fiancée, Beverly Williams of Scotch Plains, NJ; dear best friends, Steve Joe and Gary Pezzino; caring extended family, Geno Weakland and his wife Terri and their son and Dave's "chosen nephew", Tanner all of Winthrop, ME and his staff and housemates at Green Brook Group Home. He will be deeply missed by a multitude of dear friends, the dedicated former and present staff and friends of the Delta Community Supports where he has lived for the past thirty years, and the dedicated former and present staff and friends of Sarah Care.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Friday, April 27 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, April 28 from 10:30-11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, April 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Gerry Yorkshire officiating.
