Eleanor Dour Marshall died peacefully on January 20, 2022, in Somerset, New Jersey, at the age of 100.

Eleanor was born in Ridgewood, Queens, New York on December 20, 1921, to Clara Emma Eydeler Dour and Louis Frederick Dour.

She attended Richmond Hill High School and Queens College where she received a B.A. in English in 1943.  She went on to have a rewarding career as a researcher, policy analyst and writer at the U.S. Department of Labor, the American Nurses Association, and the Community Service Society of New York.

She became an advocate for reducing hunger and malnutrition among the poor in New York City.  As Fellow, Health and Nutrition Policy, Community Service Society, Eleanor had the opportunity to testify before the U.S. Congress on expanding food programs for the homeless.

Eleanor enjoyed traveling around the world, reading, NYT crossword puzzles, needlework, indoor gardening (especially African Violets) and art; after retiring, she exhibited and sold many of her beautiful oil paintings.

She lived in Queens and Nassau Counties most of her life, later moving to Westchester County and then to central New Jersey to live with her daughter's family.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Marshall-Henson, son-in-law Ramon Henson, and her beloved grandchildren, Philip and Emma.  Eleanor is also survived by her best friend for over 80 years, Ruth Chambers Marshall; they met in college, became friends and later, sisters-in-law and travel companions.  She is also survived by the family of her stepmother, Francis Umgelter Dour, who always welcomed Eleanor and Sandra into their homes and hearts; in particular, Dr. Edward Umgelter and Al Dauth.

She was pre-deceased by her sister, Audrey Dour Kelly.
