Manville, NJ – Elizabeth "Betty" M. (Lucas) Kawalchuk, 81, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Bridgeway Care Center in Bridgewater. Born in Hazleton, PA, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Matchick) Lucas, she was raised in West Oakdale, PA and resided briefly in Dobbs Ferry, NY before settling to Manville fifty-six years ago.
Betty retired from the former RCA in Bridgewater where she was an integrated technician. As a faithful communicant of Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Manville, Betty was active with the choir and rosarians, and enjoyed making pierogi's for church affairs. She was a member of the Manville Senior Citizens, Manville Nutrition Club and enjoyed playing bingo and taking trips to Atlantic City.
Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her brother, Edward S. Lucas; brother-in-law, Vincent Fidshun; and niece, JoAnn Kochie Barrett.
Betty leaves behind her beloved husband of fifty-eight years, Edward Kawalchuk with whom she joined hands in marriage on October 15, 1955; two dear sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ellen Fidshun of Hazleton, PA and Patricia and Robert Kochie of Wendell, NC; and loving sister-in-law, Jeanette Lucas of Easton, PA. She will be deeply missed by cherished nieces and nephews, Edward Lucas, David Lucas, Sharon Dempsey, Robert Kochie, Jr., Michele Kochie, and Karen Kochie Brown and by many precious great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral liturgy at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Manville on Saturday, November 9 at 9:00 a.m. Committal words and interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 49 South Hunter Highway, Drums, PA at 1:00 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835.
