Obituary

Princeton, NJ- Emilia (Smalko) Harasymczuk, 90, entered eternal life on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. Born in Drohobych, Ukraine, daughter of the late Roman and Maria Smalko, she had lived in Munich, Germany; London, England and Jersey City, New Jersey before final residency in Princeton.

Emilia earned her doctorate in philosophy at the Ukrainian Free University in Munich.
She retired from Kennedy & Sons in New York, NY where she was an editor. She was a parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hillsborough. Emilia was devoted to philanthropic causes, namely supporting the Orphan's Aid Society for Ukraine and was an avid supporter of the Arts. She enjoyed reading, had a passion for music, loved spending time outdoors enjoying nature, flowers, mountains and hiking.

Besides her parents, Emilia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ewhen Harasymczuk on February 2, 1996; brother, Leo Smalko and granddaughter, Christiana Aemilia Angelie Harasymczuk.

Emilia is survived by her loving children, Areta and her spouse Angelo Sargentini of Princeton and Orest Harasymczuk and his spouse Deborah Brown of Aberdeen, MD; two grandchildren Rebecca Harasymczuk and Kaleigh Harasymczuk; step grandchildren: William Brown, Daniel Brown and Katherine Brown and two nephews, Andreas Smalko and Michael Smalko and his spouse Claudia and their son Elias.


Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Wednesday, July 2 at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 from 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services will begin 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 3 at St Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1700 Brooks Boulevard, Hillsborough, NJ 08844. At the family's request disposition will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Emilia's memory to the Orphan's Aid Society for Ukraine, P.O. Box 630245, Little Neck, NY 11363-0245.
