Evelyn Ester
Schurick
Oct 4, 1930 — Feb 27, 2023
Evelyn Schurick, age 92 formerly of Fleming Island Florida entered eternal life and was reunited with her loved ones on Monday, February 27, 2023.
Born in Mahoning Township, Carbon County Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Rex and the late Ethel Smith Beers. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband Edward Schurick, and sisters Margaret Rex and Carol McMullen.
Ev spent her early years growing up on a farm in Douglassville Pennsylvania with her Grandpa Creighton Smith and her Grandma Dorothy Summers Smith. Later her family moved to Somerset County where she attended high school. A few years after graduating, Ev met and married her husband Ed. Ev and Ed built a wonderful life in Raritan where they enjoyed attending local football games, traveling with Ed's bowling league, and hosting summer barbeques with family and friends. After Ed retired from Ethicon, and Ev retired from the Red Fern Lace Company, they moved to Florida to enjoy the sunshine and retirement life and to live closer to her lifelong childhood friend Anna Clifford (Nancy/Nan). Ev and Ed continued many of the same traditions while in Florida, the best being the Schurick barbeques. Through the years, Ev hosted her "Florida Family" for many many summer holiday cookouts and birthday parties. And, there were even new traditions, like the annual Christmas Cookie Bake including a sleepover. We will forever cherish those special memories.
Ev loved gardening and spending time in her yard. She enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds and cardinals and visiting with the neighborhood kitties. The fragrance of fresh cut flowers was always present in her home, especially when her gardenia bush was in bloom. Ev loved traveling and has many pictures of her adventures in the US and abroad. She was an avid reader, loved working crossword puzzles, and enjoyed cooking and baking. Ev lived a remarkable life, she was an independent and strong woman, and will be missed. We love you Ev.
In Ev's last chapter of life, she was lucky to remain in her beautiful home surrounded by loving friends and warmhearted care givers. We are forever grateful for the compassion, kindness, and care Ev received while in her home. We also want to thank Community Hospice for the exceptional care they provided to Ev in her final days.
Private services will be held with the family, and interment is at Lake Nelson Memorial Park, Piscataway, New Jersey.
