Ewing, NJ- Fred Herman Kalpin was called to eternal rest on May 2, after living a full life for 93 years, spanning to living and working on a family farm in Hillsborough, to the past six years living with his daughter, Barbra Walzer and her family.

He had many special skills and interests including being a stellar baseball pitcher and playing baseball until the age of 50, rooting for his Yankees, bowling until the age 80, hunting, gardening and giving out his produce, lawn care for family and St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, painting the houses of  his family and church, playing the harmonica which he asked for on the day before he died, and singing and composing songs.  He admired Babe Ruth and Roy Rodgers.  Funny, this week his son-in-law just told him that when he was in 6 ^th grade, he signed his school papers, ROY.  He served in the Navy during World War II and eventually helped build his home on Huff Avenue in Manville, where he lived with his beloved wife, Marie Kalpin.  They were blessed with 63 years of marriage. Fred worked for decades as a skilled core maker in Flagtown and was known for his physical strength, endurance and speed in his endeavors.  No grass grew under his feet and he worked six days a week for decades.  He was one of eight children with three surviving brothers.  He told his daughter, Barbra, son-in-law, John and his three beloved grandsons, Brett, Quincy and Hart that he loved them every day, sounding like the Walton Family every night.  He was especially close to John, and on his deathbed said that his son-in-law did everything for him.  His family shall miss his silly ways, interesting stories and love.  He was a loving convert to the Catholic Faith, which taught him to serve others, and when asked by John what he wanted,  hours before his passing, he said "eternal peace".  He got his wish!

Besides his parents and siblings, he is predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie (Waslin) Kalpin in 2009.

Fred will be deeply missed by his loving daughter, Barbra (Kalpin) Walzer and her husband, John of Ewing, NJ; his three adored grandsons, Brett, Quincy and Hart Walzer; three brothers, Ray, Bobby and Art Kalpin.  He leaves behind several brother and sister-in-laws as well as by many dear nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Friday, May 5, 2017 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with Fr. James officiating the Parastas service at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, May 6  from 9:30-10:15 a.m. with the Panachida service beginning at 10:15 a.m.
