Obituary

Lavallette, NJ- Gladys C. (Byk) Zegar, 94, entered into eternal life on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ, surrounded by loving family. Born in Newark, NJ, daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Ziemba) Byk, she resided in Newark for many years, then Bridgewater, NJ for twenty-nine years before moving to Lavallette in 1990. She was displaced by Superstorm Sandy, and lived in Raritan, NJ with her daughter for three years until she moved back into a new home in Lavallette in August 2015.

Gladys was a homemaker who took great pride in caring for family. She was a former parishioner of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Manville, NJ and presently of St. Padre Pio Roman Catholic Church in Lavallette where she made prayer blankets. Gladys was a former member of the Polish National Women's Alliance in Newark, Polish National Alliance #1057 in Newark, Bridgewater Woman's Club and the Red Hat Society in Lavallette; and was active with the Lavallette Seniors Club and the Arts & Crafts Group in Lavallette. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed her crochet projects.

Besides her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her beloved husband, Eugene Zegar in 1991; brothers, John Byk, Theodore Byk, and Edwin Byk; and sister, Irene Boxill.

Gladys is survived by four loving children, Eugene Zegar and his wife Fran of West Chester, PA, Michael Zegar and his wife Cecelia of Whitehouse Station, NJ, Gerald A. Zegar and his wife Colleen of Lavallette, and Mary Jane Germek and her husband Thomas Carroll of Raritan; dear brother, Andrew Byk of Oxford, CT; ten cherished grandchildren, seven adored great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Tuesday, March 29 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 30 from 8:45-9:15 a.m.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 30 beginning 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at The Catholic Church of St. Ann in Raritan. Committal words and interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made in Gladys' name to the Lavallette First Aid Squad, PO Box 334, Lavallette, NJ 08735.
