Obituary

Manville – Helen Michno (nee Garay), 96, passed away peacefully at home with her daughters by her side, August 28, 2021.  One of eight children, Helen was the daughter of John and Christina (Chulak) Garay.  She was born in Passaic, NJ and moved, with her family, to a farm in Sandbrook, Hunterdon County when she was 1 year old.

Helen graduated from Flemington High School in 1943.  She began her working career at Diehls manufacturing in 1943.  In 1947 she moved to Manville when she married Raymond R. Michno, Sr. on June 7 th .  She continued working throughout most of her life while raising her family.  She also worked at Johns-Manville and spent 33 years at RCA where she worked in quality control and testing labs for government projects.  She retired from RCA in 1988.

Throughout her life Helen enjoyed many hobbies including softball, bowling, raising roses and vegetables, and attending many plays and concerts.  Her favorite hobby was traveling; family trips to the lakes, the beach, amusement parks, and other special places.  With her husband she toured 46 of the 50 states and cruised to Canada and the Caribbean.  Her favorite trip was in 2001 when she went to Hungary, Austria and Czech Republic with her daughter and two grandsons.  She was able to visit the two countries where her parents were born and lived.

Helen volunteered for the Women's Auxiliary at Somerset Medical Center (RWJ) as a patient transport.  She was also a member of the Christ the King Church Rosary Society and active member of the Manville Senior Citizens.  And for 28 years, she was a member of the Manville Senior's Summer Aquatic Club participating until she was 92.

In addition to her parents Helen is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Raymond R. Michno, Sr., her son Raymond (Rick) R. Michno, Jr. and her siblings, John, Ludwig, George, Emil, Alex, William, and Mary (Michalowski).

She is survived by her daughters Kathleen (Craig) Daniels and Linda Adams; her grandchildren Michael (Regina) Daniels, Mark Daniels, John Perhach, and Kristina Perhach; her great-grandsons Owen Genovesi and Matthew Daniels.  She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews extended family and close friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing in the narthex of Mary Mother of God Church, 157 South Triangle Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844 on Saturday, September 4 from 9:30-10:30 a.m.  followed by a 10:30 a.m funeral liturgy officiated by Fr. John.  Committal words and interment will take place on Saturday, September 11 at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 1066 Millstone River Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844.  Memorial contributions can be made in Helen's name to the Manville First Aid and Rescue, 2 South 3 rd Avenue, Manville, NJ 08835 or Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital-Somerset, www.rwjbh.org , 110 Rehill Avenue, Somerville, NJ 08876.
