Janina
Ternes
Sep 26, 1934 — Nov 7, 2024
Woodbridge
Woodbridge, NJ—Janina (nee Goraj) Ternes, 90, entered into eternal life on Thursday, November 7, at St. Joseph's Senior Home – Assisted Living and Nursing Center in Woodbridge. Born in Huszcka Duza, Poland, daughter of the late John and Aniela (nee Szozda) Goraj, Janina immigrated to the United States of America in 1947. She settled in Perth Amboy, NJ and then moved to Toms River, NJ in 1996. She had been in Woodbridge since 2019.
Janina worked several jobs but before retirement she had spent over 10 years as an assembly line worker for Owens-Illinois in Woodbridge. Her Catholic faith was very important; for a majority of her life she was a parishioner of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in Perth Amboy but was most recently a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Toms River. Janina was a founder and member of the United Poles in America Ents of Perth Amboy, for over 50 years, which is an organization dedicated to promoting Polish culture and heritage. She was their social director for many years. Janina loved to dance and socialize with those she came in contact; she was a social butterfly. Most importantly, Janina enjoyed spending free time with family and friends.
Besides her parents, Janina was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Peter Ternes on September 24, 2006; son, Peter Robert Ternes, MD; and siblings, Marcella, Danuta, Theresa, and John.
Janina is survived and will be deeply missed by her loving son, John J. Ternes and his wife Mary Lynn of Somerset, NJ; dear siblings, Joseph Goraj and Alina Kowalski; dear daughter-in-law, Patricia Ternes; cherished grandchildren, Adrian and his wife Iryna and Andrew and his wife Bernadeta; four adored great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Tuesday, November 12, from 10-11:30 a.m. Funeral services will take place at the funeral home beginning at 11:30 a.m. followed by committal words and interment at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery in Doylestown, PA.
