Joan Brown
Sharyk
Mar 6, 1933 — Apr 10, 2021
Pen Argyl, PA – Joan Ann (nee Lapetina) Brown Sharyk, 88, entered into eternal life on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Pocono in East Stroudsburg, PA with loving family by her side. Born and raised in Hazleton, PA, daughter of the late Mary (nee Payne) Lapetina, she spent most of her life in Manville, NJ before living in several towns in Pennsylvania.
Joan loved Elvis Presley and his music. When visiting Joan's home it was quite evident of her passion to him, as one couldn't turn a corner without seeing Elvis memorabilia. Joan took great pride in caring for and raising family. Time spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren meant the world to her. As well, she loved sharing life with any child she was near. Although not having recently practiced religion at a specific church, Joan's faith was very important to her. Joan retired after many years of dedicated employment as a nurse's aide at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville, NJ.
Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her first husband Robert Brown, Sr.; daughter, Karen Bentzinger; granddaughter, Jennifer Zavatsky; grandson, Robert Brown III; and great grandson Nicholas Green.
Joan is survived by her husband John Sharyk, four loving children, Janice and her husband Jack Zavatsky of Norwich, NY, Robert Brown, Jr. and his wife Gail of Summit Hill, PA, Scott Brown and his wife Linda of Manville,NJ, and Jeffrey Brown of Pen Argyl; and son-in-law Bob Bentzinger of Milford, NJ. She will be deeply missed by fourteen cherished grandchildren; thirty adored great grandchildren; and seven very special great-great grandchildren. It does not go unnoticed that her son Jeff Brown, and granddaughter, Heather Brown, with whom Joan lived were wonderful compassionate caregivers.
