Obituary

Manville, NJ Joseph Sobchinsky, Jr., 87, entered into eternal life on Monday, December 20, 2021 at home with loving family by his side.  Born in Somerville, NJ, son of the late Joseph William and Clara Frances (nee Cyburt) Sobchinsky, Joseph was a long life resident of Manville.

Joseph faithfully served his country with the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of staff sergeant tech.  He served during the Korean War from May 1953 to May 1957.  He received the National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal during his service time.  He was a member of the Thomas J. Kavanaugh VFW Post 2290 in Manville.  Joseph was a skilled and dedicated mechanic at Johns Manville Inc. in Manville for over thirty-eight years and was a member of their Quarter Century Club.  As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoying hunting, fishing, taking long walks, riding his bike, and spending time with family at the beach.  Joseph was a parishioner of Christ the Redeemer Parish (formerly Christ the King Roman Catholic Church and presently Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church) in Manville.

Besides his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife, Catherine (nee Newland) Sobchinsky who died on October 30, 2003; and sister, Florence Sabol.

Joseph is survived by two loving daughters, JoAnn Sobchinsky of Manville, and Sandra Sobchinsky and her husband, Harold Sobchinsky of Flemington, NJ.  He will be deeply missed by four cherished grandchildren, Janice Artfitch and her husband, Andrew Liptak, James Artfitch and his fiancée, Allison Dunne, Joseph Sobchinsky, and Erin Sobchinsky and her fiancé, Drew Freedman.  Joe will also be missed by his wondereful companion, Bertha Warzybuk.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Monday, December 27 from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, December 28 from 8-8:30 a.m.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 28 beginning 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 9:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at Christ the Redeemer Parish (Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church) in Manville.  Committal words and interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph's name to the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005 or the Alzheimer's Association National Office, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
