Julius "Erksey" Wilk's Obituary
Julius "Erksey" Wilk, 91, of Manville passed on Wednesday, December 31, 2014. He left us to join his son Dennis, brother, and five sisters in our Lord's company.
He lived his life via a simple idea, "tell yourself you can do it, and you can do it". It was that can-do attitude that guided him through his ninety plus years.
Julius was born to Simon and Mary Wilk June 20th 1923 in Elk County Pa. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps during WWII and served aboard the USS Wakefield. Upon returning home he began a 40 year career as a mason, laying the foundations in a majority of the homes in Weston including the home he built for his family more than 60 years ago. Julius was also a skilled clock smith and gunsmith who loved to take apart, study and repair almost anything. Julius was a founding member of the Manville Greyrock gun club out of Pat's Grove in Hillsborough NJ. He volunteered as the gunsmith for the Manville Police Department in the 1960's. He was an extra-ordinary artist and craftsman who built wooden toys, hand painted sport fish and a 7 foot grandfather clock hand painted with southern scenery. His sport fish collection was displayed at the Manville Public Library in 1997. Julius shared his love of art, methodical thinking and persistence with family and friends alike. He was the embodiment of "Semper Fidelis" always faithful to both his family and himself every day of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eleanor Wilk; daughter Sandra Podobed and her husband Dan, daughter-in-law Brenda Wilk; sister, Violet McGuire; grandchildren: David, Christopher, Kimberly, Justin, Daniel, namesake great-grandson Julian and great-grandchildren Gwen, Ivan, Julie, Sadie, Dylan, Alexandra and multiple nieces and nephews. He will be fondly be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to share some time with him.
