Scotch Plains, NJ--Ludmila V. Tjaden, 91, passed away Monday, February 21, 2011 in Brick, NJ. Born Ludmila Vladikin in London and raised in Queens, New York, she was a World War II veteran and proudly served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945 as a medical technician. While stationed at Fort Dix she met her future husband Herman and was married in 1945. They raised their family in Scotch Plains where they resided for 54 years and later became active members of the Clark chapter of AARP and the North Central Jersey Exxon Annuitant Club.


She devoted much of her time to volunteering in the community and served over 30 years in various leadership roles for the Washington Rock Girl Scout council including camp director and Community Chairman. The church was her passion and during her many years as a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Ludmila worked on special projects and served on the parish council and as an all-american council observer. She also volunteered her time at the Ss. Cosmas & Damian Adult Home in Staten Island.

Ludmila is predeceased by her parents, Vladimir and Alexandra Vladikin; and by her husband Herman of 62 years. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Tom Gil of Howell; a son, Peter of Arlington, VA; a daughter, Alexandra Dzupinka of Augusta, NJ; and two grandsons, George and Matthew.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Thursday, February 24 from 4-7 p.m. with Fr. James Parsells officiating the Panikhida at 6:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, February 25 from 10-10:30 a.m.

A funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 25 at Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Manville. Ludmila will be laid to rest at Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Cemetery in Hillsborough. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ludmila's memory to Alzheimer's Association, Greater NJ Chapter, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.
