Marie Buday, 97, loving wife and mother, treasured friend, and a passionate member of the Manville community, passed away on August 24 surrounded by her loving family.

Marie was born in Manville in 1926, and graduated from Bound Brook High School. Soon after, she married Nicholas Buday, a returning veteran of World War II.  They were married for 52 years during which they established a home in Manville and raised two daughters, Nancy and Marcia.

Marie was a bookkeeper for Liccardi Motors (where she met Nicholas as he shopped for a car). After that, Marie worked as a secretary to the vice principal at Manville High School until her retirement. Marie's caring nature made her especially popular with the students.

In addition, Marie's exceptional energy and belief in helping others brought numerous roles as a community volunteer in which she led and participated over many decades. These included roles in the PTA, a Weston School Library volunteer, an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, helping to raise funds as part of the Manville Rescue Squad Auxiliary, and a member of the Manville Senior Citizens.

Marie was well-known as a vibrant and supportive friend and hosted parties at her home and traveled with friends and family to Las Vegas, Paradise Island, and Florida. She especially enjoyed her yearly vacations to Maine with her daughters.

Marie was predeceased by Nicholas, and is survived by her daughters and son-in-law Mitchel Montagna.
