Obituary

Perth Amboy, NJ Mary Elizabeth (nee DeLorenzo) Cap, 86, entered into eternal life on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Hackensack Meridian Health, Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, NJ with loving family by her side. Born in Raritan, NJ, daughter of the late Faust and Emma (nee Pastor) DeLorenzo, she settled in Manville, NJ and spent most of her life there.

Mary was a 1950 graduate of Somerville High School; in addition to awards in academics, she played every sport available in high school earning her athletic awards in field hockey, baseball and basketball. Mary also was the president of the Manville Youth Auxiliary League (MYAL). Mary had many jobs throughout her life, most recently Ethicon, Inc. She worked 3 rd shift as an inspector, making use of a microscope in order to finalize surgical needles for eyes. In addition to being a homemaker she always attended to her quadriplegic son, James. Mary will be remembered by her family and friends as having a great sense of humor. She was the rock that held her family together. Mary was the most generous person you would meet, welcoming all into her home. Every visitor, family member or friend would always have a seat at her dining room table. One of her most outstanding qualities was her cooking. It was a blessing if you were one of the many to have the pleasure of eating her cooking. She enjoyed music, reading and playing board games, trips to the beach and enjoyed the casinos in Atlantic City. Mary was an avid gardener and loved her flowers and plants. She was a parishioner of Christ the Redeemer Parish (Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church) in Manville and was very committed to her church.

Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her son, Jason Cap in December of 1994; beloved husband, John who died in August of 2008. Mary and John were married in 1955 and were together 53 years at the time of his passing. She and her husband lived in and built their family home on Raritan Avenue in Manville. Mary was also predeceased by her siblings, Francis DeLorenzo, Eleanore Zitani, Faust DeLorenzo, Jr. and Alfred DeLorenzo.

Mary is survived by her loving sons, Jesse Cap, John H. Cap and James Cap all of Manville. She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, John H. Cap, Jr. of Whitehouse Station, Christopher L. Cap of Bound Brook, Jesse Cap, Jennifer Cap and James Cap all of Arkansas and Samantha Mangulas of Manville and by her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Brown Cap, Paige Beaver, Jesse Cap, Kevin Cap, Carter Blair, Penny Cap and Mason Mangulas. Mary is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Fedorczyk of Manville.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Sunday, August 26 from 3-6 p.m. and on Monday, August 27 from 8-8:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 27 beginning 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 9:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at Christ the Redeemer Parish (Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church) in Manville. Committal words and interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough.
