Manville, NJ- Melvin Randall "Mel" Hosgood, 77, entered into eternal life on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital-Somerset in Somerville, NJ with loving family by his side. Born in Butler, PA, son of the late Melvin and Mildred (nee Lucas) Hosgood, he moved to Branchburg, NJ as a young child and shortly thereafter he settled to Manville where he spent most of his life.
Immediately after graduating high school, Mel went on to faithfully serve his country with the United States Army as an SP4 during the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Service medal and Expert Rifle badge. He was a dedicated boiler man with Ethicon in Bridgewater, NJ for over thirty-seven years. Mel was a member of Thomas J. Kavanaugh VFW Post 2290 and the American Legion Post 304, both in Manville. He was a faithful man who was raised a Catholic. He loved to go hunting and fishing whenever the opportunity arose. Affectionately known by many as "Uncle Mel", he enjoyed sharing his time in the company of friends and family.
Besides his parents, Mel was predeceased by his best friend, Patty Hosgood; and brother, David Hosgood.
Mel will be deeply missed by all who knew him, especially his loving son, Christopher Hosgood and his spouse, Stefanie of Manville and son, Keith Hosgood of Bridgewater; two dear sisters, Diane and her spouse, David Warner and Carol Painter; and three cherished grandchildren, Adeline Hosgood, Mikayla Hosgood, and Zachary Hosgood; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Friday, March 8, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 8:00 p.m. at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ.
