Hillsborough, NJ—Nicholas J. Pilla, 87, entered into eternal life on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Foothill Acres Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Hillsborough. Born and raised in Manville, NJ, son of the late Nicholas and Anna (nee Strokus) Pilla, he moved to Somerville, NJ to raise his family and then settled in Bridgewater, NJ where he lived for 45 years.
Nicholas proudly and actively served his country with the United States Marine Corps from 1953 to 1957 as a private and as a reservist from 1957-1961. He was a member of the Thomas J. Kavanaugh VFW Post #2290 in Manville where his father had served as a charter member. Nicholas was a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service first in Somerville and then in Bridgewater, retiring after 30 years of dedicated employment. In his younger years, Nicholas enjoyed trips to Yankee games and playing softball with his co- workers. He loved fishing, country music, and woodworking. He never looked the other way when someone needed a hand, helping friends and neighbors with home renovations and car repairs. Nicholas always found his greatest passion to be the time spent with his family.
In addition to his parents, Nicholas was predeceased by eight siblings, Anthony, Adam, Kenneth, Ann, Josephine, Gloria, Carmella and Katherine, and a grandson, Matthew.
Nicholas is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Lois Irene (nee Born) Pilla, three loving children, David Pilla and his wife Rita of Somerville, Sheri Zandanel of Bridgewater, and Lauren and her husband Steve Brill of Stillwater, NJ; seven cherished grandchildren, Eryn, Megan, Cassandra, Nicholas, Jessica, Jamie, and Joseph; two adored great grandchildren, Aniella and Luciano; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Saturday, September 2, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with the memorial service at 12:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Nicholas's name to the VFW Post #2290, 600 Washington Avenue, Manville, NJ 08835.
