Obituary

Chesapeake, VA – Richard Andrew Grabowy, 75, entered into eternal life on Friday, March 12, 2021 at Chesapeake Regional Health Care in Chesapeake.  Born in Manville, NJ, son of the late Joseph Frank and Mary Theresa (nee Huddock) Grabowy, Richard spent most of his life in Manville, NJ and Bridgewater, NJ and then moved to Virginia in 2004.

Richard attended Manville High School.  He faithfully served his country from 1965-1967 with the United States Army as a private first class during the Vietnam War.  He began his postal career with the United States Postal Service Hillsborough Depot and then worked with several other towns before retiring in 2004.  Richard was a member of the American Legion Post #280 of Chesapeake.  He is a former parishioner at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Manville.  He was fascinated with electronics, enjoyed gardening, had a great love of music, and enjoyed playing his acoustic guitar for family and friends.  In his younger years, he played in a band while living in Manville.  Richard was also an animal lover especially his feline friend, Rocket.

Beside his parents, Richard was predeceased by his daughter, Justine Grabowy; brother, Joe Grabowy; and sister, Joan Tammara.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of forty-one years, Audrey (nee Bowers) Grabowy with whom he joined hands in marriage on September 1, 1979; three loving children, Melinda and her husband TJ O'Connor of NJ, Rick Grabowy and his wife Sarah of NJ, and Tiffany; three dear sisters, Bernie Kesolitz, Debbie Miskov, and Karen Brannon.  He will be deeply missed by two cherished grandchildren, Arianna O'Connor and Kiera O'Connor; dear maternal mother-in-law, Janice Bowers; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
