Obituary

Richard J. "Rick" Tomko, at the age of 71, entered eternal life on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the Serenity Hospice Care Inpatient Unit in Hamilton, New Jersey.

Rick was born in Somerville, New Jersey, and was the son of the late Joseph and Catherine (née Abbott) Tomko; he spent the majority of his life in Hillsborough, New Jersey, residing there from 1982 to 2014 and again from 2019 to 2026. He lived in Manville, New Jersey from 1954 to 1971 and from 1972 to 1980, in the Finderne section of Bridgewater, New Jersey from 1971 to 1971 and from 1978 to 1981, and briefly stayed in Alpha, New Jersey, from 2014 to 2019.

Rick finished his education at Bridgewater-Raritan High School in Bridgewater, New Jersey, graduating with the Class of 1972. He worked as a city carrier for the United States Postal Service in Somerville for 31 years before retiring in 2010. Rick was a passionate sports fan, with his primary allegiance to the New York Mets. He also supported the New York Jets and the New York Islanders. Rick cherished the moments he spent with his grandchildren and family, frequently making trips to East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania to see his son and grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Rick is predeceased by his younger brother, Mark Tomko; and sisters, Teresa (née Tomko) Mitzen and Barbara (née Tomko) Kato.

Rick is survived by his loving sons, Richard M. Tomko of Hillsborough, and Bradley G. Tomko of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; his dear brother, Mario Young; five cherished grandchildren, Bradley Tomko, Hailey Tomko, Jeffrey Tomko, Zackarey Tomko, and Connor Tomko and their mother, Danielle Tomko; and close friends, Tony O'Hare, Sharon O'Hare, and Nicole O'Hare.
