Obituary

Manville, NJ- Samuel J. Umbriac Sr, 88, entered into eternal life on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Lyons Campus in Bernards Twp., NJ. Sam was born April 7, 1931 in Hazleton, PA to the late Maurice and Mae (nee Milora) Umbriac.

Sam graduated from Hazleton High School in 1949. Upon graduation he left Hazleton to Manville in search of work. He worked for the Johns-Manville Corporation as a machinist until the plant closed in 1986. He was involved with the Manville Area Federal Credit Union for many years and eventually became a trustee. He was also involved with the company Quarter Century Club. Following J-M, he worked for DR Kenyon and Son as a machinist for 15 years. He then worked as a driver for Adesa until 2015.

Sam served his country honorably in the United States Army from October 8, 1952 during the Korean Conflict in the 25 th Infantry Division, Headquarters Company 1 st Battalion as a PFC and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on August 14, 1954. He was a member of the Combat Infantry Association and the Disabled American Veterans. Sam was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2290, Manville where he served as Post Commander from 1996-1997. He enjoyed Wednesday Night Bingo and where he was a bingo caller and really looked forward to, and enjoyed, the Annual VFW Conventions every June.

In Manville, he met the love of his life, Carmela Ann Franzoso, whom he married on October 1,1955 in Sacred Heart Church, and he loved her for over 58 years until Mrs. Umbriac's passing on August 4,2014. Mr. and Mrs. Umbriac are survived by their son, Samuel Jr. of Manville of State College PA.

Sam was also predeceased by brother Frank and wife Martha, of Tamaqua, PA, sister Annamae and husband Frank of Croydon, PA, brother Maurice (Jr) of Hazleton, PA, and brother Joe and wife Rosemary of Hazleton, PA.

Besides his son, Sam is survived by sister Irene Mekolichick and husband Joe of Lititz, PA and sister-in-laws Carmella Mateo Umbriac of Hazleton, PA and Ange Cameron Davis Umbriac of Virginia; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and godchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 from 3-7 p.m. with military honors presented at 6:00 p.m., and on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 8:00-8:30 a.m.

Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 9:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at Christ the Redeemer Parish (Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church) in Manville.
