Manville, NJ- Thomas Michael Soika, 70, entered into eternal life on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at his residence. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, son of the late Thomas Bernard Soika, and his mother, Victoria (Martonis) Soika he resided Manville most of his life.
Shortly after graduation from Manville High School, Tom joined the United States Navy of which he attained a ranking of storekeeper 3 rd class serving from August 1966 to October 1969. While in the Navy he was stationed in Rota, Spain and Jacksonville, FL. Tom retired after many years of employment with the GSA Belle Mead Depot as a warehouse employee. Tom was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post in Somerville, NJ. He loved gardening, stamp collecting, coin collecting fishing, cooking and QVC & playing the lottery Tommy dedicated the last twenty years of his life to be primary caregiver for his ninety-six year old mother, Victoria. Even when he became diagnosed with several illnesses himself he still found it important to put his mother's care first. His proudest was the birth of and care for his children. His greatest passion was putting others ahead of himself. In his youth he attended services at Christ the Redeemer Parish (Christ the King Roman Catholic Church) in Manville.
Besides his father, Tom was predeceased by a brother, James "Jimmy" Soika and a brother-in-law, Richard Folkner as well as his aunts and uncles.
Besides being survived by his mother, Victoria, he is also survived by two loving children, Jenn Soika of Manville and Keith Soika and his wife Kim of Whitehouse Station, NJ. Tom will also be a grandfather in May of 2018 when his family will welcome a baby girl . Also survived by Tommy are his dear brother Michael Soika and his wife Laurie and their daughter Renee of Quakertown, NJ; dear sister, Marybeth Folkner of Skillman, NJ; nephews, David and Christopher, niece, Ashley, nephew, Michael and niece, Alexandra; and his ex-wife, Robbie Ann (Gekosky) Soika of Rocky Hill, NJ.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Thursday, January 4 from 4-7 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. funeral service officiated by clergy from Christ the Redeemer Parish (Christ the King Church) and on Friday, January 5 from 9-9:30 a.m. with transfer prayers beginning at 9:30 a.m. Committal words and interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made in Tom's name to, Steeplechase Cancer Center, 30 Rehill Avenue, Somerville, NJ.
