Bridgewater, NJ-Walter W. Jones, Jr., 85, entered into eternal life on Monday, April 4, 2011 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born in Newark, son of the late Walter W. and Mary (Booth) Jones, Sr., he resided in Irvington, Middlesex and Manville before settling to Bridgeway Care Center in 2004.
Walter was honorably discharged from the United States Navy having faithfully served his country during World War II. He retired in 1988 as a long shore man with Universal Car Loading in Newark after 40 years of dedicated employment. While residing in Irvington, Walter was a communicant of St. Leo's Roman Catholic Church having been active with the Holy Name Society, the Saturday night bingo, organizing roller skating events and instrumental in directing the Boy Scout Troop. Once settling in Manville he was a security guard for the Doris Duke Estate, a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Manville and a member of the American Legion Post #12 in Somerville. Walter had a passion for hunting and fishing.
Besides his parents, Walter was predeceased by his beloved wife Dorothy M. (Czarkowski) Jones on March 30, 2004 and dear sister Helen Smialkowski.
Walter leaves behind his loving two sons, Walter W. "Butch" Jones, III and his wife Lori of Manville and William W. Jones of Old Bridge. He will be deeply missed by his three cherished grandchildren Kelly, Kristin and Kimberly.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Wednesday, April 6 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, April 7 from 8-8:30 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 7 beginning 8:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a 9:00 a.m. funeral liturgy at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Manville. Walter will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at New Cemetery in Somerville. Memorial contributions may be made in Walter's memory to Special Olympics of Somerset County, P.O.
